this would be my first post for my experience here in dubai, i was inspired by other bloggers who document their life as they go along and survive in this place called dubai. i also like to document my stay here in dubai so that whenever my contract is finished, there’s still a bunch of words that i can read to relive again the moment that there’s a part of my life w/c i stayed here in dubai, from good things to bad things, every lesson that i learned, to inspired others to be strong and face the real world with guts.
life here is different from what i used to. different culture, different nationality, different faces, different attitude and also different smell. luckily there still a lot of Filipino here that you can talk to. here are some that i encountered here as of today Nov. 11 2008.
“the carlifters”
someone who stayed outside the mall just to pick up customers, i used to call them as “the carlifters”. they are like taxi’s but they are illegal. and they also charged you a lot, (even though they are your kabayan). for them it is there way to “help” our kabayan to make it easy for them to reach their destination quickly. i do not condemn them actually because they need also to support their family at home, but sometimes they take advantage on the situation. they know that it is hard to find transportation here in dubai thats why they double up the charge. sometimes if your new and you didnt now the rate for taxi, they will charged you triple.. like one time i talked to them because i saw that they are very happy talking with each others, telling stories of what happen the day before. i ask them if they are carlift, at first they were hesitant to tell that truth to me because it is illegal and someone might hear us. but one guy talked to me in tagalog and say yes. i asked them how much is there rate for sharjah to dubai(its like valenzuela to makati) in a monthly rate. and they said to me that they dont get monthly rate. just a day by day rate only(so that they can get a lot of customers and not to stock with one customer only, and also lot of customers mean lot of $$$). So i told them how much is your rate from sharjah to dubai in a daily basis? and then one of the “carlifters” interrupt us and said 60 dirhams!(720 pesos). and he explained why the charged is like this and that so on and so on. they want me to believed that the price i will pay is worth it. i pretend and act normal but deep inside i was shocked. that was way to expensive! for a bus it was only 5 dirhams, for a taxi it would be 20 to 30 dirhams maximum. i was liked talking with a devil having a grin in his face. what i did was i just get their no. so that whenever i am desperate of getting a taxi i can call them for emergency purposes. i need to go to with a flow to survive, but ofcourse you need also to take the alternate route if it would benefit you more. so i go to the alternate route..
i will just continue this again later my pinay supervisor will arrive soon.
